- On Monday, December 15, 2025, Google made a sudden announcement that it would discontinue its “Dark Web Report” security feature on Thursday, January 15, 2026. This feature monitors the “dark web” for leaks of personal information such as names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, and personal ID numbers.

Last year, on Monday, December 15, 2025, Google suddenly announced that it would terminate its security feature, “Dark Web Report,” on Thursday, January 15, 2026. The tool Dark Web Report monitors for leaks of personal information—including names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, and personal ID numbers—on the “dark web,” a part of the web that is difficult to access normally and is often used to distribute illicit information.
“Dark Web Report” was initially launched for paid Google One members in the U.S. and expanded globally, including to Japan, starting in mid-August 2023. Subsequently, around early September 2024, it was made available for free, allowing general Google users to utilize the service.
However, this “Dark Web Report” is scheduled to end on Thursday, January 15, 2026. There are only 5 days left.
Google’s reason for discontinuing the “Dark Web Report” is that it was “unable to provide effective countermeasures.” While it was useful as a tool for identifying personal information leaked on the “dark web,” it appears the service is ending because it often received feedback as being a “meaningless tool” since it could identify leaks but could not offer further actionable solutions.
Monitoring via “Dark Web Report” will cease on Thursday, January 15, 2026. One month later, on Monday, February 16, 2026, the Dark Web Report tool and all data accumulated to date will become unavailable. This means that by February 16, 2026, all services related to Google’s “Dark Web Report” will be completely terminated.
However, Google stated that even after the discontinuation of the Dark Web Report, it will “focus on providing clear and practical solutions for protecting personal information online.”
