On Friday, March 20, 2026, Google announced a new “Meetings” section for its groupware service, Google Chat, as part of the Google Workspace suite.

The new “Meetings” section in Google Chat brings all meeting-related conversations into a single location, significantly simplifying the management of meeting chats. Users can optionally add a “Meetings” section to their Google Chat sidebar, alongside existing sections like “Direct messages,” “Spaces,” and “Apps.”

Chat threads stored in the “Meetings” section will remain for several days after a meeting concludes, making it easy to look back at discussions. Naturally, users can also move these threads to other locations if desired.

Once the new “Meetings” section begins rolling out, a banner or tooltip will appear in Google Chat, allowing users to enable it. As this is an optional feature, users may also choose to keep the “Meetings” section disabled and continue using the service as they currently do.

Furthermore, this new Google Chat feature will be available to both Google Workspace accounts and personal Google accounts.
