On Tuesday, October 13, 2026 local time, Google announced multiple updates for cars with Google built-in.

These updates for cars with Google built-in consist of a total of three features: a redesigned Google Play, the addition of new apps, and continuous YouTube playback. These updates will begin rolling out starting with GM’s upcoming next-generation models equipped with Google built-in, such as the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2027 GMC Sierra 1500.

Google built-in allows users to use Google apps such as Google Maps and Gemini directly from the car’s display without needing an Android device. It is currently adopted across 16 brands and over 100 models.

Redesigned “Google Play”

Google Play for cars with Google built-in currently offers over 700 apps.

With this redesign, Google Play for Google built-in is becoming easier to find and use apps. First, the Google Play home screen will display recommended apps, new releases, and detailed app information, allowing users to download apps of interest with a single tap.

Additionally, the menu structure will be simplified, and tailored app collections for driving and parking will be introduced. This makes it easier to discover and compare audio, video, gaming, and other apps at a glance.

Furthermore, the layout of Google Play will automatically optimize to match the varying display shapes, orientations, and sizes of different vehicles. The redesigned Google Play for cars with Google built-in will roll out over the coming weeks.

Addition of New Apps

New apps are coming to Google Play for cars with Google built-in.

The additions include US video streaming service “STARZ,” the web browser “Firefox,” the board game “Ludo King,” and India’s video streaming service “JioHotstar.” These additions will enhance convenience by allowing users to watch videos, play games, and browse the web while parked.

Continuous “YouTube” Playback

In YouTube for cars with Google built-in, videos that were being watched while parked will now continue playing as audio even after driving begins.

Please note that this continuous audio playback feature for YouTube is available exclusively for YouTube Premium members. Google stated that it will continue collaborating with automakers such as Mazda, Honda, Polestar, BYD, and Volvo, as well as app developers like Audible, Pandora, SiriusXM, and Amazon Music, to advance the development of next-generation in-vehicle media features.
