On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Google released a statement from Sundar Pichai (@sundarpichai), CEO of Google and its parent company Alphabet, following the Q1 2026 earnings announcement.

According to Pichai, the Q1 2026 results were highly positive, credited to the company’s “full-stack approach”—delivering everything from infrastructure to models and products—combined with sustained AI investments. Notably, the cloud platform “Google Cloud” saw a 63% year-over-year increase, surpassing $20 billion for the first time. Furthermore, revenue from products utilizing generative AI, such as “Gemini” and “Gemma,” grew by approximately 800% year-over-year.

Following the Q1 2026 earnings release, Sundar Pichai stated, “We are off to a great start to the year, and we are not slowing down.” He also expressed anticipation for further announcements at “Google I/O 2026,” a developer event held over two days from Tuesday, May 19 to Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

Advertising Revenue Grows 19% Year-Over-Year

Google’s core business, Search and other advertising revenues, recorded a 19% growth compared to the same period last year.

AI services such as “AI Overviews” and “AI Mode” have been well-received by users, contributing to increased search frequency. Additionally, system efficiency has improved dramatically due to advancements in hardware and engineering.

Since upgrading “AI Overviews” and related features to “Gemini 3,” the core cost per AI-generated answer has been reduced by over 30%. Furthermore, Google has succeeded in cutting search latency by more than 35% over the past five years, even while adding new features.

Subscription Total Reaches 350 Million Contracts

The consumer business also reached a significant milestone.

Driven by the proliferation of the “Gemini” app and the growth of “YouTube” and “Google One,” the total number of subscription contracts has reached 350 million. Usage of Google’s AI model portfolio is also expanding.

  • “Gemini 3.1 Pro”: Pushing the boundaries of reasoning and multimodal understanding, while enabling natural conversations in search and apps through the “3.1 Flash Live” voice model.
  • Media Generation AI Models: The music generation AI “Lyria 3” has already generated over 150 million tracks. The image generation AI “Nano Banana 2” achieved 1 billion image generations in about half the time of its predecessor, and “Veo 3.1 Lite” for video generation has also been released.
  • Open AI Models: The latest “Gemma 4” reached 50 million downloads in just a few weeks, and the total number of downloads for all open AI models has surpassed 500 million.

The Acquired “Wiz” Delivers Significant Synergy

To support the rapidly increasing demand for AI, Google announced its 8th-generation custom chips, “TPU 8t” (for training) and “TPU 8i” (for inference), and revealed the adoption of NVIDIA’s latest “Vera Rubin NVL72” GPUs.

Furthermore, in the “Google Cloud” division, the acquisition of cloud security firm “Wiz,” completed this March, is generating significant synergy. In response to cyber threats associated with the expanding use of AI models, demand has surged for “Agentic defense” solutions that combine AI with “Wiz,” serving as a major growth driver for enterprise services.

YouTube U.S. Viewing Time Surpasses 200 Million Hours

Other major business segments also reported strong figures.

  • “YouTube”: With 10 million channels uploading “YouTube Shorts” daily, daily viewing time in U.S. living rooms has surpassed 200 million hours. The net increase in “YouTube Premium” subscribers also reached an all-time high since the service launched in 2018.
  • Autonomous driving service “Waymo”: In 2026, six new cities were added to the U.S. service area, bringing the total to 11 major cities. The number of fully autonomous rides has also exceeded 500,000 per week.
