On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Google announced at its developer event “Google I/O 2026” that it will offer “YouTube Premium Lite,” a YouTube subscription service normally costing 780 yen per month (including tax), at no additional cost as a benefit for members of the “Google AI Pro” plan under the “Google One” paid cloud storage service.
“Google AI Pro” already offers an add-on that provides a slight discount on “YouTube Premium” (regularly 1,280 yen per month, including tax), but now, “YouTube Premium Lite” will be provided for free. The service is scheduled to launch “coming soon,” and this will, of course, include Japan.
“Google AI Pro” already includes “Google Health” and “Google Home Premium (Standard)” at no extra charge, and now “YouTube Premium Lite” is being added to the list. Note that the difference between “YouTube Premium Lite” and “YouTube Premium” is that “Lite” does not include ad-free access to YouTube Music-related content or additional features such as jump ahead, queueing, or continuing playback.
That said, “YouTube Premium Lite” now supports background playback and video downloads for offline viewing, which were originally exclusive to “YouTube Premium.”
