Google Introduces “AI Mode” for Personal Intelligence in the US

Key Points of This Article
  • Google has already introduced “Personal Intelligence,” a personal AI assistant that provides more personalized information to users, into its AI search feature “AI Mode.”
  • “Personal Intelligence” is an advanced version of “App Integration” that proactively offers user-specific information.
  • It is rolling out as a beta feature in “Search Labs”—an early experimental service for testing Google’s in-development features—for “Google AI Pro” and “Google AI Ultra” members in the U.S.

On Thursday, January 22, 2026, Google introduced “Personal Intelligence”—a personal AI assistant that provides more personalized information to users—into its AI search feature “AI Mode.” This comes just about a week after its introduction as a new feature for the Google AI “Gemini” on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.

“Personal Intelligence” is a personal AI assistant feature that can be described as an evolved version of “App Integration,” proactively providing information tailored specifically to the user. It extracts personal data stored across various services such as Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube (viewing history), and Google Search (history), retrieving specific details and inferring from sources to provide accurate answers.

For example, if you have a flat tire and need a replacement, and you ask Gemini, “What are the best winter tires for my car?”, it can search your past online shopping history in Gmail or find photos of your car in Google Photos to identify the make and model, then suggest the optimal winter tires for your specific vehicle. In other words, you don’t need to provide the car model or manufacturer every time; it provides the best answer based on your own personal information.

This “Personal Intelligence” has now been introduced and is available not only in the “Gemini” app but also in “AI Mode.”

Similar to Gemini, Personal Intelligence in “AI Mode” allows you to configure whether to link each service, such as Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Google Search. Naturally, it is designed with privacy protection as a top priority, ensuring that sensitive user data is not transmitted outside of “Personal Intelligence.”

However, like its implementation in Gemini, Personal Intelligence in “AI Mode” is initially rolling out as a beta feature in “Search Labs” for “Google AI Pro” and “Google AI Ultra” members in the U.S. That said, it is scheduled to expand to more countries and free users in the near future.
