Gmail to End POP3 and Gmailify Support in January 2026

  • Google has announced that it will end support for POP3 connections and Gmailify in its email service, Gmail, starting January 2026.
  • POP3 connection is a service that allows you to manage third-party email accounts in Gmail, while Gmailify is an advanced email service that adds Gmail-equivalent features like spam protection and inbox organization to third-party email accounts.
  • After January 2026, only IMAP connections will be supported for managing third-party email services in Gmail.

On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, Google announced that it will end support for POP3 connections and Gmailify in its email service, Gmail, starting in January 2026.

A POP3 connection is a service that allows you to manage a third-party email account in Gmail. It enables you to receive and send emails from your third-party account through Gmail. Unlike an IMAP connection, a key feature of POP3 is that it does not sync in real-time.

Gmailify is an advanced email service that provides third-party email accounts with Gmail-equivalent features such as spam protection and inbox organization. However, it is only compatible with specific email services like Yahoo! Mail, Outlook, and Hotmail.

Support for POP3 connections and Gmailify in Gmail will end in January 2026. After that, only IMAP connections will be available for managing third-party email services in Gmail.

Note that once POP3 connections and Gmailify support end, sending and receiving emails via POP3 connections or Gmailify in Gmail will no longer be possible. However, emails synced before that point will remain.

Starting January 2026, Gmail will no longer provide support for the following:

  • Gmailify: This feature allows you to get special features like spam protection or inbox organization applied to your third-party email account. Learn more about Gmailify.
  • POP: This feature allows you to read your messages from a third-party account in Gmail. Unlike IMAP connections, POP only works with a single device and doesn’t sync your email in real time. Instead, emails are downloaded, and you decide how often you want to download new emails. As an alternative, you can still link your third-party accounts in the Gmail app.

These changes help provide the most secure and current options to access your messages in Gmail.
