On Thursday, June 25, 2026, Google announced “Study Notebooks,” a new feature being integrated into the Gemini AI app, aimed primarily at students.
“Study Notebooks” within the Gemini app serves as an interactive learning space that offers lessons personalized to the student’s goals. It is designed to support a wide range of learning objectives, including classroom coursework, quiz preparation, and standardized test prep.
By uploading syllabi, notes, reading materials, and other class resources into “Study Notebooks,” Gemini generates diagnostic quizzes to gauge the user’s academic proficiency. These quizzes pinpoint the user’s strengths and weaknesses, clearly identifying areas that require more focus and providing a tailored learning plan.
The feature also includes robust progress tracking, with a skill-based dashboard broken down into over 100 learning objectives. Topics are automatically categorized as “Strengths,” “Areas for Improvement,” or “Not Yet Started,” prioritizing the lessons that the user should tackle next.
Furthermore, prep materials for standardized tests—including official content from The Princeton Review for the SAT, as well as JEE, NEET, ENEM, ACT, and GRE—are scheduled to be added throughout this summer. Additionally, thanks to its integration with “NotebookLM,” users can generate flashcards and video summaries based on the materials they have uploaded.
Study Notebooks is currently rolling out globally across all languages for the web version of the Gemini app. It is scheduled to be available on the Android and iOS Gemini apps later in the summer of 2026.
