On Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Google Japan introduced updates to “Personal Intelligence,” a user personalization feature for the Google AI “Gemini” app, via its official “Instagram” account.
Gemini’s “Personal Intelligence” is an intelligent feature that retrieves user activity from Google Workspace services like Gmail and Google Drive, Google Search history, and connected app services such as Google Photos and YouTube (watch history), allowing the app to return personalized answers to the user. As an update to this “Personal Intelligence,” the mapping service “Google Maps” has been newly added to connected apps, enabling the app to return answers based on spot search history and saved places.
Furthermore, integration with “Google Calendar” and “Gemini Live” has also been enhanced, allowing the app to provide responses that more accurately reflect user needs.
In this “Instagram” post, under the usage example titled “No worries if you don’t remember — identify the info you want from a photo,” it showcases how simply asking Gemini, “What was the name of that matcha soft-serve ice cream shop I went to on my Kyoto trip last year? Is it still open right now?” prompts Gemini to use photos from Google Photos and information from Google Maps to identify the shop and even provide current business hours in one go. In other words, Gemini answers what you want to know right now based on your past activity.
Various other use cases are also introduced, such as “Find the ingredients I’m responsible for for this weekend’s BBQ from Gmail, and create a schedule event called ‘Supermarket grocery shopping’ during my free time on Friday” using the integration between Gmail and Google Calendar, and “Find the saved carbonara recipe video and create a shopping list” using the integration between YouTube and Google Keep. While “Personal Intelligence” might initially seem a bit complicated, understanding how to use it makes Gemini much more convenient.
Be sure to check out the examples introduced by Google Japan on Instagram to make the most of “Personal Intelligence” in your own way. Note that the integration of “Google Maps” with “Personal Intelligence” is rolling out gradually.
