On Tuesday, September 15, 2026 (local time), Google announced a total of five new features rolling out for the AI research tool “Gemini Notebook”: “Notebook” real-time conversation, an audio recorder, interactive study overviews, a new “Quiz” format, and short video overviews called “Shorts”.

While the audio recorder will initially roll out for users with their output language set to “English”, the other features are widely rolling out for many languages, including Japanese. In addition, the approximately 60-second short video overviews (“Shorts”) previously available only in English environments now support over 80 languages, including Japanese.

“Notebook” Real-Time Conversation

Users will be able to have real-time voice conversations with their “Notebook” using the Android and iOS versions of the “Gemini Notebook” app.

Real-time conversations in the Android and iOS “Gemini Notebook” apps support around 100 languages. Because all answers are generated based on the sources registered by the user, you can also interrupt and ask questions along the way.

It will first roll out to “Google AI Ultra” members starting this week, with support for memberships like “Google AI Pro” expected to follow sequentially.

Audio Recorder

While “Gemini Notebook” has previously allowed users to upload handwritten notes and photos of materials, a new audio recorder is being introduced, enabling you to record lectures and ideas on the spot.

The recorded audio data is saved alongside your sources and can be utilized at any time for chats, citations, and more. However, the audio recorder feature in “Gemini Notebook” will initially roll out for users who have set “English” as their output language.

Interactive Study Overviews

You will now be able to create interactive study overviews within the “Reports” tool, grouping together summaries and “Studio” tools like infographics, quizzes, and flashcards to make the most of your study sessions.

New formats such as short-answer, multiple-choice, and fill-in-the-blank are being added to the “Quiz” feature within the “Studio” tools.

Additionally, “Quizzes” and “Flashcards” can be customized by you. You can ask questions in the “Notebook” chat about your scores on completed “Quizzes” and “Flashcards” to help identify and understand your weak points.
