On Wednesday, August 26, 2026 (local time), Google announced several new features rolling out to “Gemini Live,” the intuitive conversational feature within the Google AI “Gemini” app.
The newly announced Gemini Live features consist of four additions: the integration of the autonomous AI agent “Gemini Spark,” “Daily Brief,” “Gmail” operations, and “Personal Intelligence.” The updates focus heavily on enhancing so-called AI agent capabilities, allowing users to delegate complex tasks simply by speaking to Gemini Live. Statistical data shows that 63% of users talk to Gemini using their voice, and these updates aim to provide a faster, more accessible voice assistant experience.
A key feature of these new Gemini Live capabilities is that users do not need to think about which tool to use—Gemini automatically evaluates and processes requests within a single, continuous conversation. For example, if you ask, “What’s on my schedule today?”, Gemini will mention your Google Calendar events alongside school notices delivered to your Gmail inbox. If you then follow up with, “Pull the school event invitation from my email, add it to the family calendar, and include travel time,” the “Gemini Spark” agent will process that task in the background.
Integration of “Gemini Spark”
First, the autonomous AI agent “Gemini Spark” has been integrated into Gemini Live, making it possible to delegate multi-step tasks using only voice commands.
By handling information across Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Drive, and the web, Gemini can progress on long-term tasks spanning days or weeks in the background while remembering your goals. For instance, you can simply ramble off unorganized ideas that come to mind during your commute, and by the time you get home, a structured outline will be waiting for you in Google Docs. You can also have it plan a week’s worth of family meals or automatically generate a shopping list based on saved recipes.
Please note that “Gemini Spark” is a feature for memberships starting from Google AI Pro. It is not available for Google AI Plus memberships or free users.
“Daily Brief”
The “Daily Brief” feature is also being rolled out to make mornings more convenient.
By simply speaking to Gemini Live and saying, “Tell me about my day,” Gemini compiles your important events and tasks for the day from Gmail and Google Calendar, and reads them aloud to you. This allows you to check your schedule for the entire day without ever looking at a screen.
Note that the Gemini Live “Daily Brief” is rolling out for Google AI Plus memberships and above. It is not available for free users.
“Gmail” Operations
Gmail management and operations can now also be handled completely hands-free.
By simply talking to Gemini Live with prompts like “Do I have any new emails?” or “Did I get any urgent emails from my kid’s school?”, you can search, summarize, star, archive, or delete emails within Gmail.
“Personal Intelligence”
Additionally, as previously teased, “Personal Intelligence” is finally rolling out to Gemini Live.
Gemini can now cross-reference past conversation histories with “app integration” data from Gmail, Google Photos, Google Search, and YouTube to provide personalized responses. For example, even with a vague question like, “What was the name of that restaurant we went to in New York last summer?”, it can deduce the answer from past interactions.
