- Google has announced a major expansion of the “Gemini in Google Sheets” AI integration.
- Users can now create and edit entire spreadsheets from scratch using prompts for Gemini.
- New features include “End-to-end creation” to build a full spreadsheet from a single prompt, “Side-by-side editing” to modify models, budgets, or analyses directly in a side panel, and “Workspace intelligence” to automatically retrieve context and data from other apps like files, emails, and chats.
On Wednesday, April 22, 2026, Google announced significant enhancements to “Gemini in Google Sheets,” the AI-integrated feature within the Google Workspace spreadsheet service, focused on complex creation and editing tasks.
This major expansion of “Gemini in Google Sheets” allows users to create and edit entire spreadsheets from scratch simply by using prompts for Gemini. The rollout includes “End-to-end creation” for building entire spreadsheets from a single prompt, “Side-by-side editing” for modifying existing models, budgets, or analyses directly in a side panel, and “Workspace intelligence” to automatically pull context and data from other apps such as files, emails, and chats—marking a massive evolution from traditional manual cell editing.

For example, tasks that previously required expert-level knowledge—such as creating a profit and loss dashboard based on past support history and price lists—can now be handled by simply instructing Gemini: “Create a profit and loss dashboard based on past support history and price lists.” The tool will not only build the spreadsheet accordingly but also consistently handle pivot tables, formula construction, and visualization. Furthermore, by leveraging research from “Google DeepMind” and “Google Research OR-Tools,” it can even process complex optimization problems.
This major expansion of “Gemini in Google Sheets” is being rolled out to Google Workspace accounts, as well as to members of the “Google AI Pro” and “Google AI Ultra” plans under Google One.
