On Wednesday, April 22, 2026, Google announced the general availability of “AI Overviews” for “Gemini in Google Drive,” the feature integrating Google’s AI, Gemini, into the Google Workspace cloud storage service. This feature was previously launched in beta for US English users on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
The “AI Overviews” feature in “Gemini in Google Drive” allows users to receive an AI-generated summary of their query, complete with citations, at the top of the search results when using natural, conversational language in the Google Drive search bar. This enables users to instantly grasp answers to their searches without needing to open individual files.
Along with the official rollout of “AI Overviews” for “Gemini in Google Drive,” the feature now supports 28 languages, including Japanese. This means that users can now utilize the “AI Overviews” feature in Gemini in Google Drive in Japanese.
Please note that “AI Overviews” for “Gemini in Google Drive” is available for Google Workspace accounts, as well as for members of the “Google AI Pro” and “Google AI Ultra” plans under Google One.
