On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, Google announced a major update to “Gemini in Chrome,” its AI-integrated browser service for Windows, macOS, and Chromebook Plus.
This major update to “Gemini in Chrome” introduces “Gemini 3,” the most intelligent AI model to date. Additionally, the new side panel, which allows for persistent access to “Gemini” while browsing, now supports connections to Google apps such as Gmail, Google Calendar, YouTube, Google Maps, Google Shopping, and Google Flights.
With this integration, you can now use the side panel to instruct Gemini to perform tasks such as finding past emails received in Gmail, displaying addresses mentioned on a web page as map information in Google Maps, or scheduling event details from a website directly into Google Calendar. These Google app connections in the side panel can be toggled ON or OFF individually within the “Extensions” section of the Gemini settings.
Please note that “Gemini in Chrome” for Windows, macOS, and Chromebook Plus is currently being rolled out for the United States.
