- Google announces the expansion of its AI-integrated browser service, “Gemini in Chrome,” to additional regions.
- The rollout now covers the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Vietnam, and Japan.
- Notably, “Gemini in Chrome” is not yet available on the iOS version of the Chrome app in Japan.
On Monday, April 20, 2026, Google announced that it is expanding the availability of “Gemini in Chrome,” the AI-integrated browser service that launched in the United States on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
“Gemini in Chrome” previously expanded to India, New Zealand, and Canada in early March 2026, with support for over 50 languages including Hindi, French, and Spanish, in addition to English. Now, the service has expanded to the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Vietnam, and Japan.
The newly expanded version of “Gemini in Chrome” appears to be the major update powered by “Gemini 3.1,” which was announced in March 2026.
“Gemini in Chrome” is available on desktop versions of Chrome for Windows, macOS, and ChromeOS (Chromebook Plus), as well as the Chrome app for iOS. However, Japan is currently the only region where “Gemini in Chrome” remains unavailable on the iOS version of the Chrome app.

New Side Panel Deployment
“Gemini in Chrome” features a new side panel that allows users to access Gemini at any time while browsing.
This side panel is a convenient feature that lets you use Gemini to perform tasks without leaving your current tab. Whether it’s summarizing product reviews from multiple sites or asking Gemini questions and instructions, you can do it all without switching screens.

Multiple Tab Comparison
“Gemini in Chrome” works even when you have multiple tabs open.
You can leverage the side panel for various tasks, such as comparing web pages across different tabs or conducting research, by simply entering prompts into the Gemini side panel.
Google Service Integration Support
The new side panel that keeps Gemini accessible while browsing now supports connections to Google services such as Gmail, Google Calendar, YouTube, Google Maps, Google Shopping, and Google Flights.
This allows you to ask Gemini directly from the side panel to find past emails in Gmail, display an address from a webpage on Google Maps, or schedule events found on a webpage into your Google Calendar. These Google app integrations in the side panel can be toggled on or off in the “Extensions” section of the Gemini settings.

AI Image Generation with “Nano Banana”
The new side panel for constant access to Gemini now allows you to use the “Nano Banana” AI image generation model.
With this feature, while viewing an image on a webpage, you can simply input an image editing prompt into the side panel to generate new AI images directly within the interface.

Built with Security in Mind
While “Gemini in Chrome” is designed to give users freedom and flexibility, it is also built with security as a top priority.
This includes training AI models to recognize known threats such as “Prompt Injection” (where malicious instructions are sent to the AI), and implementing safety measures that require user confirmation when integrating with Google services like Gmail or Google Calendar. Naturally, the automatic update feature of Chrome ensures that users always receive the latest security patches and improvements.
