Gemini Desktop Update: No More Annoying Interruptions

Key Points of This Article
  • It seems that the annoyance in the desktop version of the “Gemini” app has quietly disappeared.
  • The solicitation link for the Google AI paid membership, which was displayed within the AI model selection window, has been removed, returning the interface to its previous state.
  • It is likely that this was prompted by a surge in user feedback, negative social media posts, and adverse user behavior.

Previously, I covered the intensified push for the Google AI paid membership that began in the desktop version of the “Gemini” app around mid-March 2026.

This aggressive promotion included not only banners on the screen but also a solicitation link for the Google AI paid membership directly within the AI model selection window, resulting in an incredibly intrusive UI. However, after a few days, it appears that this nuisance has quietly vanished. The link has been removed from the AI model selection window, and the interface has reverted to its previous state.

It is likely that many users felt the same way I did, leading to a spike in user feedback, negative social media posts, and other forms of pushback. In any case, it’s a welcome change.
