Gemini “Gem” Sharing Supported

  • Google announces and rolls out sharing functionality for custom AI expert feature “Gem” within Google AI “Gemini”.
  • Sharing will be enabled through a UI similar to Google Drive file sharing.
  • Access permissions for shared “Gems” can be set to “Editor” or “Viewer”.

On Thursday, September 18, 2025, Google announced and began rolling out the sharing functionality for “Gem,” its custom AI expert feature within Google AI “Gemini.”

“Gem” is a chatbot feature that allows users to create personalized plans, schedules, or metrics tailored to their needs, such as running or training plans. By specifying goals or objectives as “[Custom Instructions],” users can create plans aligned with those goals, essentially developing a personalized original chatbot optimized for their objectives.

Previously, “Gem” did not support sharing. However, it can now be shared using a user interface similar to Google Drive file sharing. This means users can select access permissions for the shared “Gem” as either “Editor” or “Viewer.” Shared “Gems” can be utilized by other users, and those with “Editor” permissions can edit or duplicate them.

Shared “Gems” will be stored in a “Gemini Gems” folder created within Google Drive.
