On Tuesday, March 17, 2026, during the healthcare-focused event “The Check Up,” Google announced three upcoming updates for its “Personal Health Coach”—powered by the Google AI “Gemini”—which has been available in the United States via its fitness tracker subsidiary, Fitbit, since October 2025.
The three updates announced for the “Personal Health Coach” include improved sleep tracking accuracy, “Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM)” integration, and medical record integration. Please note that there have been no announcements regarding the expansion of the “Personal Health Coach” service to additional countries at this time.
Improved Sleep Tracking Accuracy
The most significant update for the “Personal Health Coach” is the improvement in sleep tracking accuracy, achieved through an upgrade to the underlying AI model.
By training on a diverse dataset, the new AI model has reportedly improved sleep detection accuracy by 15%. This allows the system to clearly distinguish between the process of falling asleep and actual sleep, enabling the accurate detection of state changes such as mid-sleep wakefulness or naps at a level approaching clinical standards.
Furthermore, the “Sleep Score” has been rebuilt based on this enhanced accuracy, allowing the coach to provide precise and actionable advice on habits users can improve to better recover from fatigue.
“Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM)” Integration
Building on Fitbit’s long-standing focus on pioneering research in predicting insulin resistance, this update introduces integration with “Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGM).”
Specifically, starting with the public preview of the “Personal Health Coach” in April 2026, CGM integration will be available via “Health Connect.” This allows users to ask the “Personal Health Coach” how specific exercises or meals are affecting their blood glucose levels. Additionally, in the coming weeks, a new “Fitbit Lab” study in partnership with the major US healthcare provider “Included Health” will launch “Get care now.” This study aims to evaluate how conversational AI can assist in health management during online consultations.
Medical Record Integration
Beginning in April 2026, the public preview of the “Personal Health Coach” will introduce direct integration of medical records—such as lab results, medication history, and visit history—into the Fitbit app.
This medical record integration in the Fitbit app, developed in partnership with companies like “b.well” and “CLEAR,” utilizes high-security standards that meet the “Identity Assurance Level 2 (IAL2)” defined by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). With this integration, the “Personal Health Coach” can move beyond general medical advice to provide more precise guidance based on actual lab values and historical wearable data.
Note that user medical records will be securely stored within the Fitbit app. Naturally, these medical records and data will never be used for advertising purposes.
