Finally Here! Fitbit Air Now Supports Wearable Device Switching

Key Points of This Article
  • The Fitbit Air, a screenless wearable tracker from Fitbit, appears to finally support the long-awaited ability to switch between wearable devices.
  • Currently, the Fitbit app does not allow users to switch between different devices, such as one for daytime use and another for sleep tracking.
  • With the Fitbit Air, it is noted that “You can even swap between your Pixel Watch during the day for Fitbit Air for sleep without missing a beat,” suggesting seamless support for switching devices.

The “Fitbit Air,” a screenless wearable tracker from Google-owned fitness tracker manufacturer Fitbit, was officially announced on Thursday, May 7, 2026, with a release date scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

It appears that the Fitbit Air will support the long-awaited capability of using multiple wearable devices interchangeably.

Currently, if you connect a “Google Pixel Watch 4” to the Fitbit app, it is registered as your primary wearable device. If you attempt to add another device, such as a “Fitbit Charge 6” or a different “Google Pixel Watch” model, that new device becomes the primary wearable, causing the “Google Pixel Watch 4” to be disconnected. Due to this limitation, users cannot easily swap between a device for daily use and a dedicated device for sleep; you are forced to use a single device consistently, whether at work, during exercise, or throughout the day.

However, the newly announced Fitbit Air features the statement: “You can even swap between your Pixel Watch during the day for Fitbit Air for sleep without missing a beat,” indicating support for seamless device switching. In other words, it is expected that the Fitbit app—which is rebranding to the “Google Health” app—will allow the Fitbit Air to be registered as a secondary wearable device.

With up to a week of battery life, Fitbit Air keeps up with your busiest schedule — from work to workout, a night out to a good night’s rest. The low, lightweight profile is so comfortable, you’ll forget it’s there. With comfort at the core, you’ll never miss out on the benefits of sleep tracking that are central to getting the most holistic view of your health. You can even swap between your Pixel Watch during the day for Fitbit Air for sleep without missing a beat.

Introducing the new Google Fitbit Air

It remains unclear, however, whether this wearable switching functionality will be exclusive to the Fitbit Air or if it will be rolled out as a feature of the rebranded “Google Health” app for other devices as well.
