- The Central News Agency (CNA) reports that Taiwanese manufacturer ASUS will close its mobile phone division by the end of 2025 and fully withdraw from the mobile business.
- It appears they clarified that there are currently no plans for new “Zenfone” models in 2026, though maintenance, upgrades, and warranties for existing models will continue.
- The likely reason for this move is the inability to remain competitive against other manufacturers.
On Friday, January 2, 2026, Taiwanese media outlet Central News Agency (CNA) reported that Taiwanese manufacturer ASUS will close its mobile phone division by the end of 2025 and completely withdraw from the mobile phone business.
The situation began when a local mobile phone distributor, “Lingyi Communications (Xiandong Mobile Life),” posted on social media at the end of 2025 regarding the closure of ASUS’s mobile phone division, the cessation of future new product launches, and the closing of mobile phone retail stores in Taiwan. Based on this information, CNA inquired with ASUS, who reportedly clarified that there are currently no plans to launch a new “Zenfone” model in 2026, while maintenance, upgrades, and warranties for existing models will be maintained.
In other words, the “Zenfone” series—ASUS’s Android device lineup that first launched in January 2014—may see the “Zenfone 12 Ultra” released in 2025 as its final model, potentially marking the end of a mobile business that has spanned over a decade. The presumed reason for ASUS’s withdrawal from the mobile market is, as expected, the difficulty in winning against competition from other manufacturers.
While ASUS’s complete withdrawal from the mobile business has not been officially finalized, the situation is expected to become clearer depending on whether ASUS announces a new “Zenfone” at “COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2026,” one of the world’s largest IT trade shows held annually in Taiwan around June.
