As the first shocking big news of 2026, Taiwanese manufacturer ASUS has been reported to be closing its mobile phone division and completely withdrawing from the mobile phone business.
Initially reported by the Taiwanese media outlet “Central News Agency (CNA),” it appears that ASUS Chairman Jonney Shih himself has explicitly stated, “ASUS will not launch new smartphone models in the future (華碩未來將不再增加手機新機種).” According to a report by the Taiwanese IT news media “INSIDE (inside.com.tw),” these remarks were made by Jonney Shih during a pre-event interview at the “2025 Year-End Party (2025 歲末聯歡晚會),” held at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center on Friday, January 16, 2026.
While ASUS is shifting its research and development resources entirely toward AI, Jonney Shih personally stated that the company does not plan to launch new smartphone models going forward. Although a complete withdrawal from the mobile phone business has not been explicitly declared, it implies that, at the very least, no new Zenfone or ROG Phone models will be released in 2026.
