On Monday, December 8, 2025, Google announced new information about “Android XR” during “The Android Show | XR Edition,” an “Android XR” version of its developer-focused YouTube Live show “The Android Show (#TheAndroidShow).”
The announcement was a release preview for “Project Aura,” wired glasses powered by “Android XR” from AR glasses manufacturer XREAL, which were originally announced at the developer event Google I/O 2025 in May 2025. It was already announced that “Project Aura” would feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR chip and optical see-through technology, but this is the first time it has been revealed that they are wired XR glasses.
“Project Aura,” with its 70-degree field of view and optical see-through technology, can overlay digital content directly onto your view of the real world. It also allows you to place multiple virtual windows, using your space as a giant canvas. For example, you can float a recipe video while cooking or display repair instructions while fixing an appliance.
“Project Aura” will be released sometime in 2026. More details are expected to be announced at a later date.
