On Tuesday, May 19, 2026 (local time), Google officially announced its new intelligent eyewear series, “Audio Glasses” and “Display Glasses,” powered by the cross-platform OS “Android XR,” during the “Google I/O 2026” developer event.

“Audio Glasses” provide user support through voice, while “Display Glasses” are equipped with micro-displays. Both models can be operated by simply using the hotword “OK Google” to speak to Google’s AI, “Gemini,” or by tapping the side of the frame.

Specifically, users can ask “Gemini” questions about the scenery or objects they are viewing through the built-in camera. For example, you can look up reviews for a restaurant in front of you or ask the AI to decode complex no-parking signs.

Furthermore, the eyewear can recognize the direction the user is facing to provide natural voice navigation, handle hands-free calls and messaging, summarize unread messages, and play music tailored to the user’s environment. In addition to taking photos and videos, users can perform simple photo editing tasks, such as removing unwanted background elements, using only voice commands.

The system also supports real-time translation and “automatic screen operation,” which allows for multi-step task processing in the background. Users can even place delivery orders from services like “Uber Eats” simply by speaking to their Android XR-powered intelligent eyewear.

As for the “Display Glasses,” in addition to the features mentioned above, they can visually project necessary information through the micro-display at the exact moment it is needed.

Two “Audio Glasses” collections, developed in collaboration with Samsung and eyewear brands “Gentle Monster” and “Warby Parker,” were also unveiled for the first time.

The Android XR-powered intelligent eyewear is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2026, with further developments promised over the coming months.
