Google has announced the rollout of an automatic photo and video backup feature to Windows PCs using the Android nearby sharing feature “Quick Share.” The announcement was made in the latest November 2026 edition of the “Google System Release Notes“—which compiles information from the “Google System Updates” designed to improve the security and reliability of Android-related devices—published on Monday, November 2, 2026.
Regarding the automatic file syncing (backup) feature utilizing “Quick Share,” our site’s original “App Teardown” content published on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, was the first to discover that preparations were underway for a “File Sync” feature based on the internal code of the Android “Google Play services” app v26.30. With this official announcement, that feature is finally set to be officially rolled out as an automatic photo and video backup function for Windows PCs.
With traditional “Quick Share,” even between Android, ChromeOS, and Windows devices logged into the same Google Account, it was necessary to open the share sheet from the sending device and manually perform the send operation. However, thanks to the newly announced automatic photo and video backup feature to Windows PCs using “Quick Share,” photos and videos captured on an Android device will now sync seamlessly to a Windows PC in the background once configured in advance.
Unlike online syncing via cloud storage, high-speed syncing leveraging local networks and short-range communication can be expected, making this a long-awaited, practical feature for users who routinely transfer large volumes of photos and videos to their PCs.
The automatic photo and video backup feature from Android to Windows PCs using “Quick Share” will be rolled out sequentially starting with version 26.43 of the Android “Google Play services” app. Please note that the rollout has not yet been confirmed at this time.
