- Gradually rolling out starting with “Phone by Google” version v240 and later.
- The “Contacts” tab was actually placed there previously as well.
In a recent app teardown report on our site “Jetstream,” we reported on the possibility of a “Contacts” tab being added to the bottom menu of the default Android phone app, “Phone by Google.”
We have now confirmed that the “Contacts” tab in the bottom menu of “Phone by Google” has begun rolling out from late September 2026. The “Contacts” tab is being rolled out gradually starting with version v240 of “Phone by Google” and later.

The “Contacts” tab in the bottom menu of “Phone by Google” was actually located there previously, but for some reason, it was moved inside the “≡ (hamburger menu).” At the time, this drew a fair amount of criticism.
However, it has now made a comeback as the “Contacts” tab. In other words, Google listened to user criticism and restored the previous, more user-friendly UI.
