Around mid-November 2025, the “Mainline services” (Main components) app—which manages “Google Play system updates”—was added to the list of “System services” required to keep the Android platform running smoothly.
Between Wednesday, July 29, 2026, and Thursday, July 30, 2026, this “Mainline services” app disappeared from “System services.” In fact, it has also vanished from the “Google Play Store.”
The reason for the disappearance of the “Mainline services” app remains unknown at this time. It is also unclear whether this is temporary or permanent. For now, it’s a complete mystery. We will report back as soon as there are any updates.
Please note that “Google Play system updates” themselves can still be checked under “System & updates” in the Android settings, so this does not mean that “Google Play system updates” are no longer available.
