Giles Ochs (@snapseed_giles), Product Lead for Google’s professional photo editing app “Snapseed,” announced on Instagram on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 (local time), that the latest version of the Snapseed app, v4.0, will be released for Android and iOS this week.
Snapseed was a wildly popular free photo editing app when it first launched in June 2011, approximately 15 years ago. It was originally developed by Nik Software, but after Google acquired the company in September 2012, it has been provided as a Google app.
That said, in recent years, updates have been infrequent—occurring only once every few months or once a year—to the point where there were even rumors that the product might be discontinued. However, since June 2025, the iOS version of the Snapseed app has received consistent updates, introducing a refreshed UI and various new features.
The current latest version of the iOS Snapseed app is v3.20.1.
On the other hand, the Android version of the Snapseed app has not received an update in two years, since version v2.22.0.633363672, released on Thursday, May 23, 2024.
But finally, the latest version, Snapseed v4.0, is coming soon to both Android and iOS. This will likely be a major update that includes the rollout of the refreshed UI and new features previously developed for the iOS version to the Android platform as well.
