At the Android developer event “Android Dev Summit 2026,” held in the United States from late last month, Wednesday, October 28, 2026, to Thursday, October 29, 2026, Google announced that it will release the Android and iOS compatible “Quick Share SDK” in the first half of next year, 2027.

Google had previously hinted at plans to allow direct use of “Quick Share” from within third-party apps like “WhatsApp” during “The Android Show | I/O Edition” held in May 2026. Now, the developer kit “Quick Share SDK” has been officially announced. Android and iOS app developers will be able to access the “Quick Share” compatible device ecosystem, which boasts over 3 billion devices worldwide, directly from their own applications.

The main features enabled by the “Quick Share SDK” are as follows:

Main Features
  • End-to-End Encrypted (E2E) Local Transfer: Highly secure direct transfer utilizing Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, and tethering (hotspot).
  • Full-Resolution Media Transfer: Sharing in original quality without image or video compression like that via the cloud.
  • Fully Offline Sharing & Zero Server Costs: Ability to send and receive even in offline environments such as airplanes or subways, with no data transfer server costs incurred by developers.

Another key feature of the “Quick Share SDK” is that “Quick Share” can be implemented into apps with just about 20 lines of code. Furthermore, it supports advanced cross-device collaboration, such as gently tapping two smartphones together via NFC to automatically launch a closed app on the receiving device and pass the URI of the transferred file directly into the app.

With the “Quick Share SDK,” high-quality and secure short-range file transfer functionality (“Quick Share”) can be integrated into apps across both Android and iOS boundaries.
