  • A feature similar to iOS 27’s “iPhone Handoff”, potentially called “Android Handoff”, may soon be rolled out on Android as well.
  • Analysis of the APK files from the Android “Google Play services” app version v26.44 update has confirmed the addition of resource code related to a settings screen for sharing a single “eSIM” between two devices.
  • This is currently just under development, and is expected to be officially rolled out in the future.

Apple’s iOS 27 features “iPhone Handoff,” a new capability that allows a single “eSIM” to be seamlessly shared between two devices.

Because iOS 27’s “iPhone Handoff” allows a single “eSIM” to be seamlessly shared between two devices, enabling dual-device operation under a single “eSIM” plan, it is a long-awaited new feature that takes full advantage of “eSIM” characteristics. However, a similar “Android Handoff”-style feature may soon be rolled out for Android as well.

Here are the details, brought to you by our site “Jetstream’s” original app file analysis report content, “App Analysis.”

As a result of analyzing the app files from the Android “Google Play services” app version v26.44 update released on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, we confirmed that resource code related to a settings screen for sharing a single “eSIM” between two devices has been added. Furthermore, based on this resource code, the UI design for the settings screen to share a single “eSIM” across two devices has also been revealed.

In the settings for sharing a single “eSIM” between two devices, your current Android device will display “Set up %1$s SIM,” prompting you to simply scan the QR code shown on your other Android device. In other words, it appears that sharing a single “eSIM” between two devices will work in a manner similar to the currently available “eSIM transfer” process.

<string name="esim_provisioning_half_sheet_default_title">Set up SIM</string>
<string name="esim_provisioning_half_sheet_title_with_carrier">Set up %1$s SIM</string>
<string name="esim_provisioning_half_sheet_subtitle">To get started, you'll scan a QR code shown on your new device.</string>
<string name="esim_provisioning_half_sheet_setup_button">Set up</string>
<string name="esim_provisioning_lock_screen_description">Unlock to continue sharing your eSIM</string>

Previously on Android, a single “eSIM” could naturally only be used on one Android device. If an “Android Handoff”-like feature that shares a single “eSIM” between two devices is released, you will be able to switch between your daily-use Android device and another Android device for work or going out, all under a single “eSIM” contract. Additionally, a “Multi-Device Fast Switch” setting will also be available to specify which Android device uses the “eSIM” by choosing between “ACTIVE,” “PASSIVE,” and “UNAVAILABLE.”

By the way, while carrier support is naturally required to share a single “eSIM” between two devices on Android, the feature has not yet been rolled out, and details such as whether simultaneous calls on both devices will be supported or which specific Android devices will be eligible remain unconfirmed at this stage. This is simply a feature currently under development, and is ultimately a new feature anticipated for an official release in the future.
