On Friday, December 12 of last year (2025), Google announced the integration of Google AI “Gemini” into “Google Translate” and began rolling it out to the web, Android, and iOS versions of the “Google Translate” app in the US and India.

Since then, updates have been made to “Gemini” in “Google Translate”, but an expansion of the rollout beyond the US and India had not been announced. Note that this “Gemini” integration in “Google Translate” applies specifically to text translation features.

While the interpretation feature “Live Translate” has been rolled out to many countries, including Japan, text translation in regions other than the US and India has continued to use the classic translation features.

Amidst this, in mid-September 2026, we confirmed the rollout of the “Gemini”-integrated Android version of the “Google Translate” app in Japan / Japanese environment. Furthermore, it has been rolled out with a “Select text translation model” setting that allows users to switch between the Gemini-powered “Advanced” and the traditional “Classic” specifications.

“Google Translate” integrated with “Gemini” has currently only been confirmed on the Android app. A rollout to the web and iOS versions of the “Google Translate” app has not been confirmed at this time.
