The AI editing features “Remix” and “Create with AI” in the online photo library service “Google Photos” have been integrated into a single feature called “Remix Photos” as of mid-to-late April 2026.
“Remix” is an AI editing tool that allows users to transform original photos saved in Google Photos by selecting a style (such as anime, sketch, or 3D animation). In Japan, a full-scale rollout of this feature began in December 2025.
On the other hand, “Create with AI” is an AI image generation content powered by the “Nano Banana” model. It turns popular AI editing requests—such as “add me to a high-fashion photo,” “create a professional headshot,” or “add me to a winter holiday card”—into templates. By selecting one of your own photos and a template, the AI generates a new image based on your photo according to the template’s specifications.
In Japan, this feature has been available since February 2026.
In short, while “Remix” was originally designed for comical photo transformations and “Create with AI” for upgrading photos to match templates, the two have been integrated under the name “Remix Photos.” This appears to be because both functions ultimately serve the same purpose: using AI to transform photos according to a chosen style or template.
The integration of “Remix” and “Create with AI” into “Remix Photos” is currently being rolled out specifically for the Android version of the Google Photos app.
