On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, Google Japan announced the release of “Help me edit” (Conversational Editing), a Google AI “Gemini” integrated photo editing feature for the Android version of the “Google Photos” online photo library app, for Android devices in Japan. This feature was initially launched for the new generation Google Pixel “Pixel 10” series and was subsequently expanded to other Android devices outside of the Pixel 10 series.
“Help me edit” in the Android version of the “Google Photos” app is an AI feature that allows you to direct photo edits using text prompts. Simply enter your desired edits into the “Gemini” prompt window displayed on the photo editing screen of the “Google Photos” app, and the AI will perform the edits according to your request.
You don’t need to specify which tools to use; you can request multiple editing tasks at once, such as “remove the car in the background,” “restore the old photo,” or “fix the faded colors while removing reflections.” It can even suggest recommended edits for vague prompts like “make this a better photo” and supports further fine-tuning of the edited image.
The rollout of “Help me edit” in Japan, similar to its international release, is powered by the “Nano Banana” image generation AI model. This allows users to leverage highly accurate AI image generation through “Nano Banana.”
Additionally, “About this photo,” a Google Photos initiative that displays detailed information on whether a photo was generated or edited by AI in accordance with the C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) digital content verification standards, will also be rolled out in Japan alongside “Help me edit.”
While “Help me edit” in Google Photos is being released for Android in Japan, it has already been rolled out for the iOS version of the Google Photos app overseas.
