Google Messages for Android Rolls Out Nude Detection Protection Feature

  • Google announces the rollout of a feature to detect and automatically blur explicit nude photos/videos in the Android messaging app, “Google Messages.”
  • This is a type of “Spam protection” feature deployed under the “Protection and safety” settings of the “Google Messages” app.
  • When unsolicited explicit nude photos/videos are sent, they are detected and automatically blurred.

In the October 2025 “Google System Release Notes” for the “Google System Update,” published on Monday, October 6, 2025, which includes new features to enhance the security and reliability of Android devices, Google announced the rollout of a feature in its Android messaging app, “Google Messages,” that detects and automatically blurs explicit nude photos and videos.

The explicit nude photo/video detection and auto-blur feature that Google has announced for the “Google Messages” app is a type of “Spam protection” feature deployed under the “Protection and safety” settings. If the “Spam protection” toggle is ON in the “Protection and safety” settings, when unsolicited explicit nude photos/videos are sent, they will be detected and automatically blurred.

This explicit nude photo/video detection and auto-blur feature in the “Google Messages” app was announced to be rolling out with the Android “Google Play Services” app v25.39 and later, but it is already being deployed on versions v25.38 and earlier as well.

Incidentally, media detected as explicit nude photos/videos are processed only on the device itself. For example, they are not managed on Google’s servers, nor is the user shared on some kind of blacklist.

In other words, if you are sending them to each other with mutual consent… well, never mind.
