Three months ago, on or around Friday, January 16, 2026, the UI of the iOS “Google” app was refreshed, and a new history link for the AI search feature “AI mode” was added to the top-left of the home screen.

Three months later, the UI of the Android “Google” app has finally been refreshed as well, with the same “AI mode” history link added to the top-left corner of the home screen. Since this space was previously occupied by a link to Google’s experimental service program, “Search Labs,” the “AI mode” history link has effectively taken its place.

Furthermore, the “Search Labs” link, which was displaced by the “AI mode” history link, has been moved into the menu of the Android “Google” app.
