- Google begins rollout of “Gemini in Chrome” for Android to all users in the US.
- The rollout ultimately arrived about a month and a half behind schedule.
- System requirements are an Android device running Android 12 or later with 4GB of RAM or more.
On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, local time, Google began rolling out “Gemini in Chrome”—its Google AI “Gemini” integration feature for the Android version of the Chrome browser—to all users in the United States.
Although “Gemini in Chrome” for Android was originally announced in mid-May 2026 as being “scheduled to roll out in the US starting in late June 2026,” it ultimately arrived about a month and a half late. Note that the system requirements for “Gemini in Chrome” are an Android device running Android 12 or later with 4GB of RAM or more.

“Gemini in Chrome” for Android
“Gemini in Chrome” for Android is a personal AI browsing assistant powered by the “Gemini 3.1” AI model. It allows users to invoke “Gemini” from the toolbar while browsing web pages to ask questions, summarize content, or request explanations of complex topics without having to switch apps.
Productivity tools linked with various Google apps will also be rolled out, such as adding events to Google Calendar, creating ingredient list notes in Google Keep from recipe sites, and searching for specific information in Gmail. Additionally, “Gemini in Chrome” for Android features a “Personal Intelligence” capability.
“Nano Banana” Image Generation AI
“Gemini in Chrome” for Android lets you use “Nano Banana,” an image generation AI that allows you to instantly create highly personalized visuals within the browser or customize images found on the web.
For example, if you want a visual understanding of a web page or content you are viewing while studying for an exam, you can instruct it to “turn this page into an information-rich infographic,” and a corresponding diagram will be generated. Similarly, if you are browsing apartment listings and want to imagine what the room would look like with furniture, simply instructing it to “add essentials for a modern living room to the image” will generate a picture visualizing life in that property.
“Chrome auto browse” Automated Browsing Feature
“Gemini in Chrome” for Android will also introduce the “Chrome auto browse” automated browsing feature for “Google AI Pro” and “Google AI Ultra” members.
“Chrome auto browse” is an automated browsing feature that easily handles tedious web tasks for you. For instance, if you forget to book parking when heading out to an event, you can tell “Chrome auto browse” to “find parking near the event venue,” and it will read your event ticket details to find a nearby parking lot for you.
Security Protection Features
“Gemini in Chrome” for Android comes equipped with the same security protection features as the desktop version of “Gemini in Chrome.”
This means it protects users from emerging threats such as “Prompt Injection,” where malicious instructions are sent to the AI to bypass intended operations. Furthermore, “Chrome auto browse” will always prompt the user for confirmation before executing sensitive tasks such as making purchases or posting to social media.
