On March 26, 2026 (Thursday), Google announced a new feature for the Google AI “Gemini” app and began rolling it out to the web version of Gemini. The new data import tool, “Import memory to Gemini,” which is designed for users transitioning from other AI services like ChatGPT, Claude, and Copilot, started appearing on the Android version of the Gemini app as early as March 27, 2026 (Friday).

The new “Import memory to Gemini” feature was previously identified under the codename “Robin Import.” It includes two tools: “+ Add memory,” which captures personalized information (memory) recognized by other AI services, and “Import chats,” which allows users to continue conversations by importing chat history files in ZIP (.zip) format exported from those services.

With “+ Add memory,” users copy and paste a provided prompt into a chat on another AI service, send it, and then paste the response into “Gemini (+ Add memory)” to complete the import of their “memory” (past chats). The “Import chats” tool allows users to continue conversations by importing chat history files exported from the “Data Management” settings of other AI services. It supports the ZIP (.zip) file format with a maximum size of 5 GB.

Please note that images or videos generated by other AI services will not be imported. The tool is strictly limited to text-based chat imports.

While it was announced that “Import memory to Gemini” for the Android and iOS versions of the Gemini app would roll out over several weeks following the web version release, the Android app received the feature in just a few days. Conversely, the “Import memory to Gemini” feature has not yet been released for the iOS version of the Gemini app.
