- An analysis of the app files from the Android “Personal Safety” app v2026.09.16.982745548.0-release update has revealed the addition of an animation within the settings screen for the “hands-free way to start” feature of “Emergency SOS.”
- An actual rollout has not been confirmed yet.
- The “Emergency SOS” hands-free activation is a new setting where you press the power button rapidly 5 times in a row and answer “Yes” on the triggered “Emergency SOS” screen to activate “Emergency SOS.”
Previously, in our original app file teardown content “App Teardown” here on “Jetstream,” we reported that a new “hands-free way to start” feature would be rolling out to “Emergency SOS” in the “Personal Safety” app for Android devices, primarily focusing on Google Pixel devices.
We have now confirmed the animation explaining this hands-free activation of “Emergency SOS” in the Android “Personal Safety” app within the new app version. We are bringing you the details once again through “App Teardown.”

Note that the hands-free activation of “Emergency SOS” in the Android “Personal Safety” app is a new setting where you can trigger “Emergency SOS” by pressing the power button rapidly 5 times in a row and answering “Yes” on the “Emergency SOS” screen that appears. Additionally, you can cancel the “Emergency SOS” activation by answering “Cancel” on the “Emergency SOS” screen.
In other words, as long as you remember the timing to trigger the “Emergency SOS” screen by pressing the power button 5 times consecutively, you will be able to activate “Emergency SOS” even while your Android device remains in your pocket or similar places. That being said, it is not entirely hands-free.
