On Thursday, April 30, 2026, Google announced that it is upgrading the AI assistant in “Google built-in” vehicles—those equipped with the Android Automotive OS—to its Google AI, “Gemini.”
Once Gemini is rolled out to “Google built-in” vehicles, an upgrade option will appear, allowing users to switch to Gemini. Please note that the initial rollout of the Gemini upgrade for these vehicles will begin in the U.S. in English, with a gradual release over the coming months.
Additionally, Gemini for “Google built-in” will include “Gemini Live,” an intuitive conversational service, available in beta. Users can start Gemini Live by tapping the Gemini Live button or by saying, “Hey Google, let’s talk.”
Google plans to expand the supported languages and regions for Gemini in “Google built-in” vehicles in the near future. Furthermore, features to access apps such as Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Home are also scheduled for release.
