About a year ago, around September 2025, we introduced that the iPhone/iPad pairing setting “Pair iPhone or iPad” was newly added to the “Google services” settings on the Google Pixel “Pixel 10” series.
Initially, this “Pair iPhone or iPad” setting housed both “Transfer eSIM,” a cross-platform eSIM transfer feature from Android to iOS, and “Copy data,” a data copy feature between Android and iOS. However, “Copy data” was quietly removed shortly after, leaving only “Transfer eSIM.”
About a year later, around mid-August 2026, “Copy data” has quietly made a comeback on Google Pixel devices running the next-generation Android OS, “Android 17.” Within the “Pair iPhone or iPad” settings on Google Pixel devices, both “Copy data” and “Transfer eSIM” are now housed once again.
Furthermore, the “Copy data” feature that has returned within the “Pair iPhone or iPad” settings is a setting for the new native migration feature from iPhone to Android introduced in the next-generation Android OS “Android 17,” which was announced in conjunction with “Galaxy Unpacked,” the Samsung event held on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. The new native iPhone-to-Android migration feature introduced in “Android 17” is an OS migration feature that allows users to wirelessly transfer a greater variety of data during migration without needing a dedicated migration app. Its biggest feature is the ability to natively migrate not only existing data such as photos, videos, contacts, messages, and calendars, but also data like “Google Account” credentials, passwords, Wi-Fi credentials, and eSIM profiles.
While the new iPhone-to-Android native migration feature introduced in “Android 17” was initially rolled out for new Samsung Android devices, it was also announced that its rollout would be expanded to non-Samsung Android devices as well.
In other words, this likely means that the new native iPhone-to-Android migration feature has now begun rolling out to Google Pixel devices running “Android 17” as well.
