  • Google’s virtual globe service, “Google Earth,” suddenly refreshed its icon around Friday, November 6, 2026.
  • While keeping the familiar globe design, the undulating blue layers have been reduced from 5 to 4.
  • A gradient has also been introduced.

While Google has been refreshing the icons for various services throughout 2026, the icon for the virtual globe service “Google Earth” was also suddenly updated around Friday, November 6, 2026.

In the newly refreshed “Google Earth” icon, the basic globe design remains the same, but the undulating blue layers have been reduced from the previous 5 to 4. Additionally, gradients—which have been featured in recent Google service icons—have been introduced.

That said, it is a subtle icon refresh that is hard to notice at a glance. For reference, the featured image at the top shows the new “Google Earth” icon, while the image below shows the old “Google Earth” icon.

The “Google Earth” icon refresh is currently rolling out starting with the Android version of the “Google Earth” app. It is expected to roll out to the web and iOS versions of the “Google Earth” app over the next few days.
