- Google has begun rolling out “Personal Intelligence,” a user personalization feature, for its in-car platforms “Android Auto” and “Google-built-in” vehicles, as well as for its AI “Gemini.”
- This allows users to obtain the information they need through natural conversation while driving—without taking their hands off the steering wheel, providing detailed contextual explanations, or manually searching for information.
- If you have enabled “Personal Intelligence” in the “Gemini” app for Android, it will automatically carry over to “Android Auto” and “Google-built-in” vehicles.
On Tuesday, October 20, 2026, local time, Google began rolling out the user personalization feature “Personal Intelligence” for Gemini, Google’s AI on the in-vehicle platforms “Android Auto” and “Google built-in.”
“Personal Intelligence” is a feature that securely links information stored across various Google services—such as Google Workspace apps like Gmail and Google Calendar, as well as Google Photos, Google Maps, YouTube (watch history), and Google Search (history)—with Gemini to provide personalized answers optimized for each user. This allows drivers to get the information they need through natural conversation without taking their hands off the steering wheel, explaining complex contexts, or searching for information manually.
As a side note, regarding “Personal Intelligence” in “Android Auto,” our site “Jetstream” originally reported on it in our app teardown content: we exclusively uncovered the “Personalization” resource code in early September 2026, followed by the “Personal results in this car” settings UI screen in early October 2026. Now, the official rollout has finally begun.
With “Personal Intelligence,” instead of searching for flight confirmation emails, you can simply ask, “Where is my flight gate? Is there any delay?” and receive a combined answer with the gate number and flight status. You can also refer to the location of a photo you took and instruct, “Find the car wash from the photo I took last week and navigate there” to set a destination, or build on a previous conversation by asking, “Take me to that cafe we were talking about yesterday.” Gemini handles complex information retrieval and context inference in the background.
Additionally, “Personal Intelligence” is designed with privacy as the top priority. Apps are not linked unless you explicitly opt in, and you can turn it off at any time from the Gemini app settings. Furthermore, for “Google built-in,” personalized responses are secured to be provided only while an Android device is connected to the vehicle.
The rollout of “Personal Intelligence” for “Android Auto” has begun gradually. It is also scheduled to roll out for “Google built-in” over the coming months.
If you already have “Personal Intelligence” enabled in the Android version of the “Gemini” app, it will automatically carry over and be enabled in “Android Auto” and “Google built-in.”
