On Thursday, October 15, 2026 (local time), Google announced the US rollout of “Universal Cart,” an intelligent shopping cart feature whose integration into “Google Shopping” was previously announced at “Google I/O 2026.”

“Universal Cart” is Google’s version of a virtual shopping cart that lets you manage products from multiple e-commerce sites together. Previously, shopping online while comparing multiple e-commerce sites meant opening countless browser tabs or taking screenshots of items you were interested in. With “Universal Cart,” however, you can gather items from across different e-commerce sites into a single cart.

The newly launched “Universal Cart” offers a total of four features: saving items across multiple e-commerce sites, price and stock fluctuation notifications, suggestions for the best payment methods and promotional codes, and direct checkout from the cart. It is rolling out sequentially in the US via Google Search and the Gemini app.

Save Items from Multiple E-Commerce Sites All at Once

“Universal Cart” allows you to save items from multiple e-commerce sites into the same cart, no matter which Google service you are using to shop.

For example, even if you add a Steve Madden handbag via the “AI Mode” in Google Search, followed by a Quince sweater and an Ulta Beauty lip gloss in the Gemini app, all of these items will be gathered into a single cart. Your cart state is naturally saved, so you can return later and resume your shopping right where you left off.

Price and Stock Fluctuation Notifications

“Universal Cart” is powered by Google’s “Shopping Graph,” which features over 60 billion continuously updated product listings.

Because of this, it automatically notifies you in the background when an item you’ve added to your cart drops in price, or when an out-of-stock item becomes available again.

Suggestions for the Best Payment Methods and Promo Codes

Because “Universal Cart” is built on “Google Wallet,” it understands the benefits associated with each of the credit cards you have registered and suggests the optimal payment method.

Even if you hold multiple credit cards, you won’t need to figure out on your own which one offers the best rewards for your purchase. Available promotional codes are also displayed directly within the cart.

Direct Purchase from the Cart

Direct Purchase from the Cart

When purchasing through “Universal Cart,” you can check out in just a few taps directly from the cart using “Google Pay,” or alternatively transfer the items to the merchant’s own cart to complete your purchase on their e-commerce site.

Regardless of which checkout method you choose, purchases are treated as transactions with the individual e-commerce merchants rather than with Google. This means you will receive order confirmation updates and customer support directly from each merchant. Direct checkout from the cart is supported by Nike, Sephora, Target, Ulta Beauty, Walmart, Wayfair, and numerous other e-commerce sites powered by Shopify.
