- The October 2026 monthly software update will be the last software update provided for the “Pixel 6” and “Pixel 6 Pro,” which were released on Thursday, October 28, 2021.
- Originally, major OS updates were provided for 3 years after release, and security updates for 5 years after release.
- On Thursday, December 5, 2024, in a major surprise, both major OS updates and security updates were extended to five years.
On Tuesday, October 6, 2026, local time, Google began rolling out the regular monthly software update for October 2026—which includes security vulnerability fixes and feature enhancements—to a total of 25 Google Pixel models preinstalled with the new-generation Android OS “Android 17”: the Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Tablet, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 9a, Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 10 Pro Fold, Pixel 10a, Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold (view details).
This October 2026 monthly software update marks the final software update reaching the end of its support period for the “Pixel 6” and “Pixel 6 Pro,” which were released on Thursday, October 28, 2021.
Originally, the software update support period for the “Pixel 6” and “Pixel 6 Pro” was set at 3 years after release for major OS updates and 5 years after release for security updates. However, in a big surprise on Thursday, December 5, 2024, both major OS updates and security updates were extended to 5 years.
Looking back even to the Google Nexus era, this was likely the first-ever extension of the software update support guarantee for a Google Pixel device.
However, the software updates for the “Pixel 6” and “Pixel 6 Pro” have now reached their expiration in October 2026. This is, for all intents and purposes, the final software update.
I say “for all intents and purposes” because there is always a slight possibility that a November 2026 monthly software update could quietly be released, or that an update to fix critical bugs could be pushed out if any arise. That said, there is no denying that the official support period has expired.
