The announced updates consist of five features: the “Moods” photo editing style, upgraded “Markup” tools, new templates for the “Remix” AI editing feature, expanded regional availability for “Wardrobe,” and “Photos in Gemini Spark,” which lets users interact with their “Google Photos” library through the autonomous AI agent “Gemini Spark.” Among these, “Moods” and the upgraded “Markup” tools are rolling out worldwide, including in Japan.
“Moods” is a new editing style for the Android version of the “Google Photos” app that adds nostalgic, vintage-style looks to photos, such as those inspired by 35mm film or 2000s compact digital cameras. Unlike standard filters that apply the exact same effect to every photo, Moods automatically adjusts the effect for each individual image, and users can also fine-tune the intensity using a slider.
The “Markup” tool in the Android version of the “Google Photos” app has been upgraded with the addition of a new “Redact” pen, which allows users to blur and hide personal information in photos. It also introduces a slider for precise adjustment of handwriting stroke thickness and new fonts. Additionally, 15 new templates have been added to the “Remix” AI editing feature in the Android and iOS versions of “Google Photos,” transforming everyday pictures into styles like a red-carpet look, a birthday card, or a photo booth snapshot.
“Wardrobe”—a feature previously announced in April 2026 that automatically catalogs clothing in your photos to create a digital closet for virtual outfit planning and try-ons—is finally rolling out to Android and iOS “Google Photos” users in the US, India, and Brazil.
