On Thursday, September 24, 2026 (local time), Google announced the early preview rollout in the US of “Call for me,” a new feature for the next-generation Google Pixel “Pixel 11” series where “Gemini” makes phone calls to stores and businesses on behalf of the user to handle various tasks.
Google Pixel devices have previously offered call-assistance features such as “Hold for Me,” which waits on hold for you, and “Direct My Call,” which displays automated voice menu options on the screen. However, the new “Call for me” feature rolled out in the US takes things a step further by allowing you to entrust the phone call itself to “Gemini.”
To use it, simply tell Gemini the purpose of the call in the Gemini app by tagging it with “@Call for me.” For example, you can request it to check the stock of a specific part at a hardware store, reserve a patio table at a restaurant, or reschedule a hair salon appointment to next Thursday. “Gemini” will then call the recipient, introduce itself, navigate automated voice menus, wait on hold, and even converse with a representative.
Calls made via “Call for me” are placed using the device’s mobile network and the user’s own phone number. At the beginning of the call, “Gemini” informs the recipient that it is Google’s AI assistant, that the call is being recorded, and on whose behalf it is calling. Before placing the call, you can review details such as the phone number and the name/contact information provided to the recipient. During the call, you can monitor the situation through live transcription and audio.
If you tap “Take over” during a “Call for me” conversation, “Gemini” will announce the handoff, step aside, and allow you to continue the conversation yourself. After the call ends, a summary of the results is sent to the Gemini app, and the full transcript and recording can be viewed in your “Phone by Google app” history.
Please note that “Call for me” does not support emergency calls, financial transactions such as payments, the exchange of sensitive information like credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, or health information, or telemarketing calls. Additionally, there is a limit on the number of calls that can be placed per day. If you prefer not to receive automated calls via “Call for me” as a recipient, you also have the option to opt out.
The early preview version of “Call for me” will roll out gradually over approximately two weeks starting Thursday, September 24, 2026. It is available to “Google AI Plus / Pro / Ultra” members in the US and English-speaking environments who are participating as beta testers for the “Phone by Google app.” Users must also be 18 years of age or older.
Furthermore, at this stage, the feature is limited to the “Pixel 11” series with a US carrier SIM card inserted, and call destinations are restricted to US phone numbers only. It is starting as a limited rollout.
