On Thursday, September 24, 2026 local time, Google released the beta OS update “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6” for Google Pixel devices enrolled in the pre-release Android OS trial program, the “Android Beta Program.”
“Android 17 QPR2,” which serves as the base for “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6,” is the second update set following the first update set “Android 17 QPR1” for Quarterly Platform Releases (QPRs) rolled out after the official release of “Android 17.” Meanwhile, “Android 17 QPR2 Beta x” acts as a beta OS leading up to the official release.
The newly released “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6” is being delivered via Over-the-Air (OTA) software updates to a total of 19 models enrolled in the Android Beta Program: the “Pixel 6a,” “Pixel 7,” “Pixel 7 Pro,” “Pixel 7a,” “Pixel Fold,” “Pixel Tablet,” “Pixel 8,” “Pixel 8 Pro,” “Pixel 8a,” “Pixel 9,” “Pixel 9 Pro,” “Pixel 9 Pro XL,” “Pixel 9 Pro Fold,” “Pixel 9a,” “Pixel 10,” “Pixel 10 Pro,” “Pixel 10 Pro XL,” “Pixel 10 Pro Fold,” and “Pixel 10a.” Notably, although the new-generation Google Pixel devices—”Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold”—have been added to eligible devices for the Android Beta Program, they are excluded from this “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6” update. It remains a mystery.
Incidentally, starting from “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 1,” the “Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro” have been excluded from the list of eligible devices.
The newly released “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6” focuses primarily on bug fixes, resolving a total of 6 issues. Among them are several fixes related to system stability, such as an issue on the “Pixel 9 Pro Fold” where third-party apps launching the camera viewfinder caused the device to reboot unexpectedly, as well as issues causing crashes, reboots, or freezes during scrolling.
Additionally, “Android 17 QPR2” continues to introduce “hardening of call forwarding features” aimed at preventing fraud. USSD codes for call forwarding executed via the `TelephonyManager.sendUssdRequest()` API (such as `*21#`) are analyzed by the system to block background execution from ordinary apps holding only the `CALL_PHONE` permission. Furthermore, when a user manually enters a call forwarding code through the system dialer, an OS-level confirmation dialog appears before execution.
USSD requests that do not involve call forwarding, such as mobile money transfers or balance inquiries, are not affected by this change.

After applying the “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6” update, the build number will be updated to “CP41.260831.007,” the Android security patch level will be “August 5, 2026,” and the Google Play services app will be updated to version v26.28.33 or later.
