Google has rolled out the app version v1.4.0 update on Thursday, August 13, 2026, for “Google AI Edge Eloquent”—an AI speech-to-text app powered by the small language model “Gemma” that was originally released for iOS devices on Friday, April 10, 2026.
With this v1.4.0 update, the “Google AI Edge Eloquent” app now supports Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Russian, Thai, Turkish, Vietnamese, and Japanese. Previously limited to English only, the “Google AI Edge Eloquent” app is finally available for Japanese users.
However, the in-app text has not been localized and remains in English.
Unlike standard speech-to-text software that transcribes slips of the tongue and filler words such as “um,” “uh,” and “er” exactly as they are spoken, the “Google AI Edge Eloquent” app uses AI to automatically edit out mistakes and filler words, converting only accurate sentences into text. Furthermore, it goes beyond simply editing out errors and fillers by understanding the context of disjointed spoken language, shaping it into flawless sentences.
Another key feature of the “Google AI Edge Eloquent” app is that it does not require a server connection, operating efficiently right on the device. This means it works completely offline, and private user data, such as personal content, is never sent to Google servers or elsewhere.
Additionally, building on the previous v1.3.0 app version, it also supports uploading audio and video files, allowing users to transcribe uploaded recordings. The “Google AI Edge Eloquent” app also features a built-in dictionary creation tool that learns the user’s vocabulary and is editable, saving directly to your Google Account.
Despite being packed with such versatile features, the “Google AI Edge Eloquent” app is completely free.
