While the Android app for Google’s mobile wallet management service, “Google Wallet,” offers contactless payment services utilizing NFC and FeliCa in Japan, it also supports QR code payments via “Pix” in Brazil.
However, it now appears that “Traveler QR”—a new QR code payment service leveraging “Alipay+,” provided by China’s “Alipay”—will be rolled out to Google Wallet. This possibility came to light through our site’s original content, “App Analysis.”

“Traveler QR,” identified within the app files of the Android version of “Google Wallet,” appears to be a feature that allows users to make QR code payments at “Alipay+” partner merchants using Visa or Mastercard credit cards registered in Google Wallet. Since “Alipay+” also supports “PayPay”—the SoftBank-backed QR code payment service—we cannot rule out the possibility that payments via “PayPay” through “Traveler QR” in the Android “Google Wallet” app may also become a reality.
Regardless, this is an exciting new feature to look forward to in terms of future official announcements and rollouts.
