“Search Live,” a new feature of the conversational AI search “AI Mode,” began its full-scale rollout in Japan in late March 2026.
Although “Search Live” has maintained a consistent UI since its inception, it has periodically undergone UI refreshes, only to revert back. We have now confirmed that another UI refresh for “Search Live” took place in late July 2026.
In this refreshed “Search Live” UI, the gradient displayed at the bottom of the screen has taken on an aurora-like appearance. Functionally, however, it remains unchanged from the standard “Search Live.”

The aurora-like UI for “Search Live” that we confirmed has been spotted on select Google accounts on certain Android devices. It is currently unclear whether this will see a wider rollout.
