On Wednesday, July 22, 2026 (local time), in conjunction with the Samsung “Galaxy Unpacked” event, Google officially announced a new native migration feature that will be introduced in the next-generation Android OS, “Android 17.”
The new native migration feature in “Android 17” is an OS-level function that enables the wireless transfer of a broader range of data when moving from an iPhone to Android, without requiring dedicated third-party migration apps. In addition to existing data types like photos, videos, contacts, messages, and calendars, it will now natively support the transfer of Google Accounts, passwords, Wi-Fi credentials, and eSIM profiles.
The eSIM profile migration feature within “Android 17” appears to be the cloud-based “cross-platform eSIM transfer” that was previously identified internally within the Android system app “SIM Manager.”
While this new native migration feature for “Android 17” will initially launch on new Samsung Android devices, plans are in place to expand it to other Android devices as well. It is highly likely that it will be available at launch on the next-generation “Pixel 11” series of Google devices.
